Cairo, Egypt
Graduating with a PhD in industrial and manufacturing systems engineering

How did you pick your major of study, and why did you choose the University of Windsor?

I’m an assistant lecturer at Cairo University and I wanted to pursue my PhD in industrial engineering.

What were your expectations of university? Has the University of Windsor met those expectations?

When I came to the University of Windsor, I wanted to capitalize on the knowledge and the experience that I have to make a good PhD but I didn’t plan to be the founder of Change Ready MPC Systems and Progressive Modeling. U of W was the host of my greatest academic achievement. I hope that one day U of W will be proud that Progressive Modeling was developed in room B24, Essex Hall.

What would you say is the most important thing you have learned at university: about yourself, about other people, about your field of study, or about the world?

Even though my research didn’t culminate until the last year of my studies and it was really tough and hard experience, I feel not only people but even the walls have left some kind of friendship. When you end up with an achievement, you love everything — even those hard days or hard times.

What would you say has been the most memorable part of your UWindsor experience?

I have been working day and night for five years until I loved everything. I don’t believe this experience will be repeated again. It’s a nostalgic experience!

Please tell us why you are proud to be part of the University of Windsor’s graduating class of 2011.

Because I finished with an achievement that exceeded all my expectations and my dreams.

Did you have a course, professor or classmate who inspired you?

I was inspired by the challenges of the problems that encountered during my research. Actually when I want to present Progressive Modeling to anybody I tell him my story and how it was created and developed according to many hardships, now I can say surprises. As for my professors, I studied courses in three disciplines, Industrial Engineering, Business, and computer science. All my professors inspired me some way or another and I have learnt from every one of them some tips that was very useful during pursing my degree.

What are your plans following graduation?

My plan after graduation is to establish my own consulting company and make Progressive Modeling one of the popular modeling paradigms in both academia and industry.
