The Honourable Edward C. Lumley, P.C., LL.D., first appointed as Chancellor in 2006, was born and raised in Windsor and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from Assumption University, the predecessor of the University of Windsor, in 1961. He has been Vice-Chairman of BMO Nesbitt Burns and its predecessor, Burns Fry Ltd., since 1991.
Lumley had a distinguished record of achievement as Mayor of Cornwall, Ont., before serving 10 years as a Member of Parliament, holding several senior portfolios in the governments of Pierre Trudeau. Those positions included Minister of Industry, Trade and Commerce, as well as International Trade, Communications and others. During that time, he also held responsibility for numerous Crown Corporations, such as the CBC, the Canada Development Investment Corp. and Teleglobe.
He has served on a number of domestic and international corporate and advisory boards, as well. They have included BCE Inc., Canadian National Railway Co., and Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group. He is also involved in numerous non-profit organizations.
