1977-78 Lancer Men`s Curling

2010 Team Achievement Award Recipients

In 1977-78, the Lancer Men's Curling team would go on to duplicate their magic from the year prior and capture their second straight OUAA provincial championship title in the process.

That year, at the west sectionals in Guelph, the Lancers finished round robin play with a 3-3 record, good for a tie for third with the Guelph Gryphons and Waterloo Warriors. However, the Lancers would advance to the OUAA finals on the strength of a pair of victories over Guelph and Waterloo at the sectionals.

The OUAA Finals were hosted by Queen’s in Gananoque on February 10 & 11, 1978. Windsor started strong with victories over RMC, Queen’s and Toronto, before getting edged by Western 6-5 in match four.

That would set up the title game between Windsor and Wilfrid Laurier, with the Lancers taking an early lead and coasting to their second straight OUAA title with an 8-3 victory.

Members the 1977-78 Lancer Men's Curling OUAA Championship team include Skip Peter DeKoning (third from left, Lead, Greg Barlow (left), 2nd Ian MacLellan (mission) and 3rd Duncan Stauth (right) with Coach Doug Bakes (second from left).
