Organic Waste Diversion

About the Project

This is a pilot project by the student-led UWindsor Climate Action group, involving the collection of organic post-consumer waste in the CAW Student Centre and in residence buildings. The most recent stats for waste diversion show that the University currently diverts only 35.3% of its waste, and that about half of the waste sent to landfills could be diverted through compost collection. In addition to providing the bins, this project will also include an education component, to teach people how to properly dispose of their waste.

How will funds impact the work being done?

The budget for this pilot project includes compost bins and weekly pickup, signage and education. Project leaders also hope to raise enough money to help fund compostable cutlery in food services locations, which would further reduce the need to sort waste.

Fundraising Goal: $4,500
