2007 Recipient of the Alumni Award of Merit

Larry Stoute recives Alumni Award of MeritA journalist for more than 45 years - has experience in radio, television and print.

Stout began his career at Radio Station CKOC in Hamilton and later moved to Toronto as a newscaster at CKEY. In 1963, he was a reporter for the Toronto Star, and then began a 23-year career with CBC News. As a correspondent for the CBC National News and the Newsmagazine, Stout covered national and international assignments, and produced award-winning documentaries. He was producer and narrator of a program on Toronto's urban development that won the Radio and Television News Directors Documentary Award in Canada and the Edward R. Murrow Award in the United States. In 1980, he was a finalist in the Association of Canadian Radio and Television Artists Awards for best host interviewer on Canadian television.

In Canada, Stout reported on national elections, including the conventions that elected Trudeau and Chretien as Liberal leaders, and Stanfield and Mulroney as Conservative leaders. He was co-host of CBC television coverage of Pope John Paul II's 1984 visit to Canada.

Internationally, Stout has reported from the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Central and South America, and Africa. He covered "the troubles" in Northern Ireland, and the civil wars in Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Nigeria. He also produced and reported news documentaries on the anti-war movement and the civil rights struggle in the United States. He was assigned to both the Nixon-Humphrey and Reagan-Carter presidential election campaigns.

Larry Stout on set with female reporterStout joined CTV News in 1989 and served as Toronto Bureau Chief, senior writer, and anchor on CTV Newsnet, and CTV Radio News. For three years he was an anchor and interviewer based at Toronto Stock Market Place covering major business stories of the day, and talking to corporate executives and analysts from across the country.

In 2003 Larry was honoured with a Clark Award in recognition of his outstanding personal service and significant commitments in time, energy and expertise to the University of Windsor. In 2007 he was presented with the Alumni Award of Merit for distinguished accomplishments which have brought honour to the University.
