Requirements for Three-Part AQ Courses

Three Part AQ Course Requirements

Part 1
  • Certificate of Qualification, Certificate of Qualification  or Letter of Eligibility.
Part 2
  • Certificate of Qualification indicating completion of Part 1
  • A Confirmation of Teaching Experience Form certified by a Supervisory Officer* indicating evidence of at least one year (or equivalence of 194 days) of successful teaching experience,

Part 3 (Specialist)
  • Certificate of Qualification indicating successful completion of Part 2;
  • A Confirmation of Teaching Experience Form certified by a Supervisory Officer indicating evidence of at least two years (or equivalence of 388 days) of successful teaching experience, of which at least one year (194 days) includes 110 teaching hours in the subject area.

NOTES:

  1. Teaching experience must be completed prior to the first day of the course.  
  2. For teachers employed by an Ontario Board of Education, the supervisory officer is a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent of the board.  A principal's or school head's signature cannot be accepted.
  3. For teachers employed by an independent or First Nations school, the Supervisory Officer (eg. Education Officer) is the Ministry of Education and Training official appointed to provide supervisory services to the school.
  4. In some courses, in accordance with OCT Regulation 184/197, 'where candidates are teaching the subject in an integrated format, supervisory officers may consider experience where a teacher can demonstrate that significant program and instruction modifications were explicitly planned, implemented and reviewed in the teacher's class''.  Examples of such courses are: Computers in the classrooms, Dance, English as a Second Language, French as a Second Language, Dramatic Arts, Guidance, Media, Music, Reading, Special Education, Visual Arts.
