WORK STUDY: STUDENT INFO

Work Study funds part-time jobs on campus for students demonstrating genuine financial need related to basic living expenses and educational costs.

Positions offer opportunity for both financial benefits and skills development.
IMPORTANT: Students are expected to apply for OSAP funding to meet their financial need. Work Study would be considered only if OSAP funds are not sufficient to meet that need. Out-of-province students are expected to apply for government assistance through their home provinces and provide the Student Awards Office with a copy of their assessments.

Jobs:

• all pay $12.00 per hour
• offer opportunities to enhance current skills or learn new ones.

QUALIFICATIONS: ALL APPLICANTS MUST

• be an Ontario resident;
• be a Canadian Citizen or Landed Immigrant;
• be registered in a degree program;
• be a full-time student at the University of Windsor, maintaining at least 60% of a full course load for credit in each term (40% for students with a permanent disability); have a cumulative average of at least 5.0 and not be on academic probation;
• in the case of OSAP applicants, have been assessed by the Ministry
• if not OSAP applicants, submit required documentation (see application);
• complete a Work Study application and budget fully and accurately
• be assessed by the Student Awards & Financial Aid Office to determine eligibility for Work Study;
• if UNDERGRADUATES (and both eligible and hired), meet the Ministry's requirement to work at least 5 hours per week and no more than 24 hours per week;
• if GRADUATE STUDENTS (and both eligible and hired), work at least 5 hours per week and average no more than 10 hours per week. (Guidelines surrounding Graduate Students and employment stipulate that Graduate Students may not work more than 10 hours per week on average regardless of the source of their employment . Should you have any questions about these guidelines, please refer to the Graduate Studies Office.);
• Note: Graduate Students who have FULL Assistantships are NOT eligible for Work Study in the same semester(s).

APPLICATION PROCESS

The application is available starting August 1 for undergraduates.

There is a separate application for Graduate Students which will be available October 15 once any GA/TA/RA funding has been confirmed.

To apply for the program, logon to the Student Information System, click on "Search and Apply for U of W Scholarships, Awards and Need-based assistance (including the Work Study Program", and follow the directions from there.

Decisions on eligibility will be sent to your University of Windsor email address.

DEADLINES

CONDUCTING YOUR JOB SEARCH

YOU MUST HAVE RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM THE STUDENT AWARDS OFFICE CONFIRMING YOUR ELIGIBILITY FOR THIS PROGRAM BEFORE DOING A JOB SEARCH.

If you have not applied yet, go to SIS and click on Search and Apply for U of W Scholarships, Awards and Need-based assistance (including the Work Study Program).

Your approval for Work Study does not guarantee that you will be hired, as employers will hire those students who best meet their needs.

You are responsible for doing your own job search and arranging your own interviews. To SEARCH FOR A WORK STUDY POSITION, you must be approved for the program BEFORE arranging an interview. Employers will ask to see proof of approval.

GETTING PAID

• The Student Awards Office will notify you by email once we receive a Confirmation of Hiring from an employer. This will give you information about registering with the Human Resources Department.
• Ensure that you report your hours to your employer at least once a week, unless you are required to sign in and out each time you report to work (arrangements to be determined between yourself and your employer).
• Your employer is required to submit your hours to the Payroll Department on a weekly basis.
• Students are paid by direct deposit to their bank accounts every two weeks as long as hours are reported in a timely manner. Should you change banks or wish to use a different account than on record, notify the Payroll Department (4th Floor, Chrysler Hall Tower).

NOTE: Work Study earnings may affect OSAP eligibility especially if you have other part-time income, bursaries or scholarships.
