Dr. Barb Zielinski

Dr. Barb Zielinski of The Department of Biological Sciences wins a $446, 690 NSERC grant to research acoustic and pheremone traps for round gobies, an invasive fish species of The Great Lakes.

The Goby preys on the eggs of local fish species and can cause devastation to sport fish stocks.

Collaborating with fellow Windsor Biology professors Drs. Lynda Corkum, Dennis Higgs and Stephen Loeb (Chemistry) as well as Dr. Tim Johnson of Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Dr. Keith Tierney (University of Alberta) Dr. Zielinski hopes to develop a system which will lure female gobies into traps and therefore stop them laying eggs in local rivers and lakes.
