Threads of Prayer

If you have ever been to our student lounge, you wil not be surprised to discover that some of the girls started taking study breaks and knitting. It wasn't long before more started to join in and it quickly turned into a knitting and prayer group.

Now that group has a purpose: create items for the sick and pray for them while knitting.

The parish gives these girls the names of people and what they would like made. As they knit they pray for the individual. When they are done, the person is presented with their gift of comfort.

Silent Retreat at the Benedictine Monastery

We know - this sounds rather crazy, but it is an amazing experience! Last year, we did this for the first time with seven students (some of them usually very, very talkative) right after exams and right before Christmas. This year, we will leave at lunch on Monday, December 17 and return before lunch on December 20 (Mon-Thurs).

Environment is everything for a good silent for retreat, so we head North for about an hour to a Benedictine Monastery. The accomodations are amazing and the grounds are lovely. We take part in their prayer schedule throughout the day, which is incredible.

All in all, it is the best way to transition from the frantic pace of exams to the beauty and celebration of Christmas. Watch the Facebook event for details.

CCO Rise UP!

Every year, hundreds of Catholic students from across Canada gather for a dynamic experience of faith and worship. Rise UP! is the most exciting of all the National student conferences - often held in fantastic venues in beautiful cities and packed with fantastic speakers.

This years conference will be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia from December 27 - January 1. The cost has yeat to be determined, but it will run a couple hundred dollars.

We hope to take a good size group this year, so join in on this opportunity to make new friends, explore a great city and rise up in your faith.

Screen-Free Day

January 18th, Campus Ministry is promoting a "screen-free day" across the University of Windsor campus. For an entire day, the university community is encouraging all faculty, staff and students to turn off all devices with a screen - computers, cell phone, tablets, etc. . .

This day, which marks the conclusion of Mental Health Awareness Week, hopes to raise awareness about the difficulties constant connection to anyone and everyone causes. Screen-Free day is also designed to promote conversation and relationships on campus as there will be several activities across campus to fill the void of no screen time.

The academic deans have all been invited to encourage instruction take place without the use of screens when able and all participants will be identifiable by a button they can wear for the day.

The Imperfect Art of Dating

February 7 at 6:00 PM in the Freed-Orman Centre, Internationally-acclaimed Catholic Sexpert and Foundress of Project Rachel, Vicki Thorn will be coming to Windsor to speak to university students on the "Imperfect Art of Dating".

As a biologist, biochemist, and registered nurse, Vicki speaks around the world speaking with compassion and great intellect about sex and relationships. One year ago, Vicki came to Windsor to speak to 350 high school students who gave her their undivided attention as she spoke about the Biochemistry of Theology of the Body.

This is a presentation that no one should miss, so bring a friend and join us for a dynamic and thought-provoking evening.

Tridentine (Latin) Mass Experience

February 12th at 7:00 PM, Campus Ministry will explore and experience the Tridentine (Latin) Mass at Assumption Church. This is a regularly scheduled Mass at Assumption and part of a community within the parish community.

The Tridentine Mass is an "extraordinary form" of the Mass most of us experience each Sunday. After Vatican II, Mass in Latin was discouraged; however, in 2007 Pope Benedict XVI signed the Summorum Pontificum which specifies how and when priests may celebrate Mass using the Missal promulgated by Pope John XXIII in 1962.

Since then, the extraordinary form has been loved and feared by many, and often a source of much controversy within the Church. So that we might better understand the reasons for it support as well as the controversies, Campus Ministry is going to explore and experience the Tridentine Mass together. Afterwards, all students will be invited to join a discussion about the experience in the lounge.

A Celebration of the City of Jerusalem

This musical, theatrical adventure is designed to build bridges between people and cultures; to create meeting points of good will and understanding; and to evoke harmony - both musical and spiritual.

Artists have come together from different cultures, religious backgrounds, and countries to inspire peace in the city and in our own hearts.

This a free and public concert.

Good Friday Fish Dinner

Mark your calendars for March 29th! Not only is this day Good Friday in the life all Catholics, but it is also a day when Campus Ministry holds its annual fundraiser - a fish dinner for Assumption Parish.
