Campus Ministry Weekly Activities

(Sunday) Cafe

Every Sunday after the 7:30 pm Student Mass, consider yourself invited to the Café in the Campus Ministry Lounge in the Assumption University Bldg.

There is always a bit of music, homemade soup and great company. From time to time, speakers are invited to come share a bit of their experience, but for the most part, it is purely social and purely free!

No reservations are necessary, so after Mass, just follow the crowd across the lawn and relax before the week gets started again.

(Monday) Mass, Dinner and Games

Need a chance to relax? Want some food that doesn’t come out of a box? Join us Monday nights for Mass, followed by a home-cooked meal and games. Every week, the meals highlight foods of different cultures, so it is a great chance to meet new people and try new foods! Dinner usually features cuisine from a different part of the world cooked by students who know how to cook it. Last year, we enjoyed the tastes of India, Nigeria, Iran, Mexico, China, Korea, Italy and France!

It happens every Monday, with Mass at 5:30 pm Assumption Bldg Chapel (2nd floor) following by dinner and games at 6 pm in the Campus Ministry Lounge. And best of all – dinner is only two dollars!

We ask that you RSVP through the event on the Facebook group: Windsor Campus Ministry.

(Tuesday) Bible Study, Jazz/Hip-Hop Movement and Yoga

BIBLE STUDY

Did you know that Mark was the first of the gospels to be written; that it is the shortest of the gospels; that it is a whole new kind of writing (genre); that he really struggled with the scandal of a crucified Lord; that being a disciple was really hard?

Join Fr. Bill Riegel, CSB, Pastor of Assumption Church every Tuesday at 8:10 pm or every Wednesday at 12:10 pm in Rosary Hall (the basement of Rosary Chapel next to Assumption Church) for a Bible Study on the Gospel of Mark.

Fr. Bill will be taking us on a Marcan journey without leaving the Windsor!  This is not so much a discussion as a meditation on the portrait of Jesus in this gospel and how can experience the Lord through it.  All invited and bring a friend along.

JAZZ/HIP-HOP MOVEMENT AND YOGA

There is an awful lot of work happening in that brain of yours, but what about the rest of you? Feel like you need to move around? Want to meet some cool people who are also looking for a bit of balance?

Join us Tuesday nights as we dance and yoga our way to a more complete person.

Tuesday, we offer a Jazz/Hip-Hop Movement Dance Class from 6-7 pm in the Campus Ministry Chapel.  This class will help you expand your movements to start including basic Jazz/Hip Hop dance technique that can help you to be the life of the party on the dance floor! This class has strong Stretching and Strengthening aspects to help build your confidence while learning a mixture of dance styles.

The first class is free, so there is no cost to give it a try. You then get 10 one-hour classes for only $10 each semester (student id required) (Faculty and non-students cost $20 each semester)

Our yoga classes are offered from 7:00 – 8:00 pm. Just like Swing, the first class is free with the rest of the semester costing only $10.

And all of our classes are taught by certified instructors that are some of the best around and held in the Assumption University Bldg Chapel (2nd Floor).

(Wednesday) Bible Study & Ballroom Dance

BIBLE STUDY

It is the same class as offered on Tuesday, but during your lunch break.  Join Fr. Bill Riegel, CSB, Pastor of Assumption Church, every Wednesday at 12:10 pm in Rosary Hall (the basement of Rosary Chapel next to Assumption Church) for a Bible Study on the Gospel of Mark.

BALLROOM DANCE

Join us for a Ballroom Dance course with a twist.  This survey-style course will cover the Merengue, Waltz, Tango and more!

Classes run from 5:30 – 6:30 pm every Wednesday in Assumption Univ. Bldg. Chapel. Just like the others, classes are $10 each semester (student id required) (Faculty and non-students cost $20 each semester)

(Thursday) CREED & Ultimate Frisbee

Catholicism Rediscovered (or Creed) is a one hour class about what Catholics really believe, held Thursdays from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

Last semester, The goal was to understand the basic tenants of the Catholic faith, such as the Trinity, Scriptural interpretation, sacraments, sin and grace, the magisterium and various moral teachings) in the context of our world today.  In doing so, the content is driven by the encyclicals and more recent documents of the Church.

For many students and non-students who attended the class, it was a chance to ask the questions they have never had an opportunity to ask before.  So this semester, we begin the second stage of that journey in CREED 2:  An Exploration of Spiritualties.  Our primary sources are some of the best spiritual authors in the Catholic tradition:  Nouwen, Lewis, Rolheiser and many others.

Together, we will embark on journey through the spiritual landscape as understood by the Catholic Church.  This is not a class that I “teach”; rather, one that I facilitate a discussion in which we can all participate.

This is the embodiment of what we believe – the expression of our faith in a world that does not offer easy answers.  Thus the goal of this class is not really about finding the right answers, rather it is about knowing the right questions – the questions that we all have to answer in our own time based on our own experience.

The Winter Semester CREED Schedule is as follows:

Jan 12:     Spirituality & Religion:  Believing & Belonging

Jan 19:     Spirituality & Prayer:  Many People, Many Paths

Jan 26:     Sabbath Spirituality:  Learning how to say NO
