As a student, you are investing an incredible amount of energy into yourself, but that doesn’t have to occur in a vacuum. There are many people who need your energy, creativity and talents. Campus Ministry wants to help align your desires with practical experience through volunteer opportunities. Below are just two such options, but many more are on the way, so stay tuned.

Vincentians believe in personal contact with those they serve. Vincentians visit the needy in pairs and tailor assistance to meet individual needs. The following are forms of help most often provided by local conferences: Emergency food assistance, food banks, visits to “shut-ins” and the sick, visits and friendship to the incarcerated, prayers for the poor, the outcast, and the marginalized.

The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.
The Salvation Army is now the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in the country. It strives to give hope and support to vulnerable people today and everyday in 400 communities across Canada and 118 countries around the world.
The Salvation Army offers practical assistance for children and families, often tending to the basic necessities of life, provides shelter for homeless people and rehabilitation for people who have lost control of their lives to an addiction.

Hiatus House is a social service agency offering confidential intervention for women and their children experiencing domestic violence. Crisis intervention services are available on the phone and in person 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Well-Come Centre is a community based organization composed of staff, volunteers and board members dedicated to women and children. This facility provides emergency shelter and support to homeless women. In addition to staff support the residents receive outreach services from such agencies as Street Health, Legal Assistance of Windsor and Housing Information Services.

Community Garden for West Windsor

Reclaiming urban landscape, rebuilding food skills and knowledge, producing food collectively and democratically, and strengthening the local food system
The Windsor Essex Community Health Centre (WECHC), formerly Sandwich Community Health Centre, has a half acre communal and private plots garden fully running at the corner of Prince and King (3735 King St.). Members of the community are invited to come and adopt a row for the Grow and Row for Hungry project.

(Tuesday, 9:30-11:30 am; Saturday, 9 am-12 pm; Locations vary) SVDP is an international network that began on a university campus as a way for students to help the poor.
In Windsor, SVDP answers hundreds of calls every month and needs your help responding to them.
Volunteers are needed on Tuesday to box and package items that the volunteers, who are needed on Saturday, will deliver to residents in the community. For more information, contact Fr. Chris.
