Building Bridges!

ParthJ

I am a Co-op student in the Engineering and Operations department at Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA). My role is to assist the Project Manager for the Transmission Contract which includes heavy Civil and Electrical works for the relocation and construction of existing and new transmission lines. Transmission Contract is one of the important components of the preparatory works in the Gordie Howe International Bridge project.

My placement at Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority, as a co-op student, has given me plenty of opportunities to present my skills at different levels. Exposure in Electrical and Civil works related to the transmission contract will be helpful in my future employment opportunities as I have gained great experience in this field in terms of design, construction, and contractual work.

My co-op experience has helped me improve my communication, contractual, presentation, managerial and technical skills in civil engineering. It has been an amazing experience working with personnel at all levels. I have been nourished during my work term at WDBA and am prepared to take any opportunities in my future endeavors in the “real world”.

My tips to the other co-op students seeking similar experience would be to have an in-depth knowledge of the organization they wish to work for, and a clear idea about their duties, responsibilities and scope of work.
