PC insider's scoop!

Joshua

I've spent this semester on a co-op placement at Loblaw, working in their supply chain division for a team called Replenishment Optimization and Integration (ROI). ROI's chief role is to design the most efficient systems encompassing all replenishment services at the store level (ie how to get product customers want, from the source to the shelf). This involves co-ordinating software and hard systems (like logistics) to best serve customers and our strategic goals.

I think the most important thing I've taken away from this placement is the atmosphere of the workplace. I've never worked for a company Loblaw's size, nor one that offers all the amenities that are present at 1 Presidents Choice Circle (PCC). Gym memberships, free lunches, hockey rinks, basketball courts, and free clothing are all some of the perks that Loblaw offers its employees. As well, the company gives broad latitude in terms of your workday hours, dress code, etc. In exchange for that freedom, the workload is relatively heavy. This whole trade off teaches you to value the freedom you're given and pay it back by executing your tasks at a high level.

For anyone considering this placement with Loblaw, I'd absolutely recommend it and advise people that everyone in their first week at 1PCC is a little overwhelmed, and the most important thing to do is approach your tasks seriously, and ask for help whenever you need it.
