The Centre for Engineering Innovation
CEI interior

Building Features

Innovation and R&D begins with cultivating undergraduates. Expanding our current facilities to increase the quantity of highly qualified and multi-disciplined engineers is a priority. To facilitate this growth the centre will feature:

  • Interactive Auditorium – A flexible 350-seat auditorium to encourage student interaction and smallgroup learning. The auditorium will be designed to allow for equipment as large as an F-150 truck to be transported into the room to accommodate hands-on, tactile learning.

  • Lights, Camera, Action – Strategically placed cameras and screens in the interactive auditorium will ensure every student has a clear view from any seat in the room.

  • Instructional Classrooms – 120-seat, 80-seat and 40-seat classrooms.

  • Strategic Skills Investment Program Laboratories (SSILAB)– These labs will equip students with the high-standard, technical and practical skills required by the automotive industry. The SSI section will include labs for mechanical dissection, metrology, aluminum casting, vehicle thermal management, applied heat testing, vehicle systems, as well as the new field of autotronics.

  • SuperStructure/Stress/Material Strength Labs – Civil engineering laboratories will facilitate the study of heavy structures, light metal structures, composite materials, advanced structural mechanics, soils, fluids, and transportation.

  • EnviroLabs – Labs will be dedicated to monitoring the climatic challenges we face today with pollution and global warming, and foster industrial solutions to paramount challenges.

  • Accessibility – The CEI will be designed with universal accessibility.

  • CreateAuto Studio – Students will design and build a variety of components and whole vehicles in the new automotive communication learning studios.

  • IndustriLabs – Students will have access to interactive labs dedicated to innovation in industrial and manufacturing systems, robotics and product staging and management.

  • ElectroLabs – Electrical engineering students will enjoy labs specifically designed for electronics, automation controls, robotics and machine design.

  • Flexi-Labs – A variety of high-technology labs will provide undergraduate students with opportunities to practically apply the engineering theory learned in the classroom. These labs are designed to be flexible in order to change with advancing technology and student requirements.

  • Brain Space Areas – Special space will be dedicated to fostering and promoting idea sharing, discussion and interactive debate.

New Technology Neighbourhood – The centre will be equipped with software systems fully integrated across campus. This will encourage satellite webcasts, interactive whiteboards, online learning and data integration.
