Award Winning Grad

Serena (Zhongyuan) TangMASc student, Serena (Zhongyuan) Tang, and her supervisor, Dr. Hanna Maoh, received the runner up conference paper award for the paper they presented at the 46th Annual Canadian Transportation Research Forum (CTRF) conference which was held in Gatineau, Quebec during the period May 29 – June 1, 2011.

Their paper “Evaluation of Commute Efficiency: Design and Simulation of Future Urban Form Scenarios in Windsor, Ontario” investigates the impacts of various future land developmental pattern scenarios on the sustainability of transportation in Windsor.

The key finding from their research suggest that the promotion of a multinucleated urban form, where land development is strengthened around certain existing urban focal points in the metropolitan area, would result in the best outcomes for sustainable transportation in the future.

This research is funded through a grant from the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) to study smart growth, transportation and the future of the environment in Canadian cities.
