Bay of Plenty Polytechnic

Kia ora – I’m James and I teach in the School of Business at Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, Tauranga New Zealand.   I have interests in Consumer Behaviour and Relationship Marketing and these areas seem to nicely spill over, and help me develop my teaching practice.  I’m married to Wendy and we have two great kids, Ella and Charlie who I am immensely proud of and who I love spending time doing things with.  Like many Kiwi males, I tend to invest a disproportionate amount of my spare time enjoying, watching or trying to keep abreast of the many and varied sports I follow, and I have a keen interest in being outdoors and enjoying nature.  My colleagues would suggest that I have a particularly casual teaching style which seems to sit well with my many students I have taught over the past 22 years.  In 2013 I was fortunate enough to receive a New Zealand Tertiary Teaching Excellence Award and it’s a privilege to act as a current serving member of Ako Aotearoa’s Academy of Tertiary Teaching Excellence Executive Committee.  In 2014 I was elected to serve as a member of the Ako Aotearoa Northern Hub Advisory Group, a role which I’m extremely passionate about and honoured to have.  Finally any teaching success I have enjoyed I owe entirely to my students, colleagues and my family who have supported me on my teaching journey so far.
