Iwona Miliszewska

Iwona is an Associate Head of the School of Engineering and Science at Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia. Iwona’s personal journey has taken her through numerous countries, a variety of educational systems, and a multitude of cultural experiences; she lived, studied, and worked in Poland, Germany, and since 1988, in Australia.

Iwona has a background in computer science and has taught computing at her home university in Australia and offshore in Hong Kong and Malaysia, for over 17 years. Her offshore teaching experience has triggered an ongoing interest in internationalisation and the cultural dimensions of education and culminated in a PhD in the field. Her contribution to the scholarship of transnational teaching and learning was recognised nationally in 2008 with the prestigious Australian Learning & Teaching Council’s Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.

Passionate about teaching and learning, and the promotion of scholarship of teaching and learning, Iwona has initiated and led projects on learning in the workplace and community, personalisation of learning experiences, outcomes-based learning, and assessment that promotes reflective learning. She mobilized her colleagues to participate in the projects, mentored them, encouraged them to pursue educational research and publish, and assisted them in the evaluation and documentation of their teaching practices.
