Sapphire Wood knows the value of student engagement.

In addition to working as a resident assistant in Electa Hall, the fourth-year women’s studies major belongs to the Outstanding Scholars program, serves as teaching assistant, and participates in the alumni phonathon.

“Being involved in so many things on campus keeps me interested and motivated in my studies,” said Wood.

She was one of the residence students honoured at a reception Wednesday in Vanier Hall for earning A-level grades or above last semester. Diane Rawlings, department head of residence services, said the event underlines a commitment to student success.

“Our staff provides residents with the support they need to adjust to university life,” she said. “We are proud of providing a safe and comfortable living environment that promotes and supports the engagement, growth and achievement of our students.”

At Wednesday’s reception, administrators greeted the students and distributed certificates and a small gift. The event also recognized students who have worked as residence or community assistants and on the Windsor Inter-Residence Council while maintaining grades of at least B average.

Heidi Lamb, an academic resident assistant in Macdonald Hall, said she appreciated the recognition.

“I usually don’t take a lot of credit, but my mom convinced me to come tonight,” said the second-year drama student. “It makes me feel like all my hard work is being noticed by somebody!”
