Visiting artists to lead Commedia dell’Arte workshop

Teatro Punto is a theatre company which develops performances and workshops based on modern Commedia dell’Arte.

The School of Dramatic Art will welcome two highly regarded international guest artists to conduct a specialized acting workshop in Commedia dell’Arte for BFA acting students Tuesday.

Carlos Garcia Estevez and Katrien van Beurden of Amsterdam’s Teatro Punto will be in Windsor to lead a six-hour intensive workshop on Tuesday, February 14. Participation is limited to students and alumni of the School of Dramatic Art.

Commedia dell’Arte is a form of improvised theatre using masks, and is very physical in nature. It usually includes many specific “stock characters” such as foolish old men, devious servants, or military officers full of false bravado.

Teatro Punto is a theatre company which develops performances and workshops based on modern Commedia dell’Arte. With an international team of actors they make a theatre where the actor is the author of the story. Through movement, text, techniques and imagination they create tragical-comical shows with and without masks.

Carlos Garcia Estevez is the founder and artistic leader of Teatro Punto. He trained for three years with Jacques Lecoq at the École Internationale du Théâtre and at the Laboratoire d’Etude de Mouvement. He also develops his own pedagogical research on physical theatre, and has performed throughout the world, and on film and television.

The University of Windsor’s BFA Acting program is a rigorous four-year degree program with intensive training in acting, movement, and voice. Students in the program have the extraordinary opportunity to work with invited guest artists throughout the year. This is the first visit by Teatro Punto.
