New grants encourage more undergraduate research

Undergraduates at the University of Windsor will have even more opportunities to participate in research now that a new grant program designed to help faculty members encourage their involvement has been established.

The Vice-Provost of Teaching and Learning, the Office of Research Services, and the Centre for Teaching and Learning have teamed up to establish new Undergraduate Research Experience Grants.

Faculty members are invited to submit proposals and can receive a maximum of $5,000 for projects that involve undergraduates in research and scholarly activities, and encourage faculty to mentor students as they pursue this research.

“The granting scheme is intended to support research for educational purposes, and it prioritizes initiatives involving a broad range of students over those that involve a few,” said Alan Wright, Vice-Provost of Teaching and Learning.

Funded projects will be from one semester to one year in duration. Grants will begin December 1, 2013 and will normally conclude by March 31, 2014. This funding opportunity was made possible by the University of Windsor Strategic Priority Fund.

Applications are due by Friday, November 22 at 4:30 pm. For more information, contact Natasha Wiebe at nwiebe@uwindsor.ca.
