Strategies to slow climate change subject of lecture

Mitigating the effects of climate change on the environment will be the subject of a free public lecture by McGill University’s Catherine Potvin, as part of the Royal Society of Canada’s Romanowski Lecture Series. (Editor's note: this lecture has been cancelled due to winter storm.)

Dr. Potvin, a world leader in the study of global change biology, will present Halting Deforestation in the Tropics: One piece of the climate change mitigation puzzle, on Wednesday, March 12, at 4:30 p.m. in the CAW Student Centre’s Ambassador Auditorium.

Potvin’s research has included the study of the consequences of elevated levels of carbon dioxide on plant growth and biodiversity. Her current work investigates tropical landscapes where her team is developing land use strategies to maximize carbon sequestration, or the capture and storage of carbon dioxide as a way to slow down climate change.

The eco expert is the recipient of the 2012 Miroslaw Romanowski Medal, awarded for significant contributions to the resolution of scientific aspects of environment problems or for important improvements to the quality of an ecosystem. Her Windsor appearance is sponsored by the Office of Research Services.
