UWindsor chancellor Ed Lumley received an appointment as a member of the Order of Canada in recognition of his service to his community and country.
UWindsor chancellor Ed Lumley was one of 86 appointments to the Order of Canada announced June 30 by Gov. Gen. David Johnston.
Lumley will be invested as a member of the order—one of the country’s highest civilian honours—at a ceremony to be held later. The honour recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation, in Lumley’s case, most notably his tenure as federal industry minister.
UWindsor president Alan Wildeman offered congratulations on Lumley’s appointment.
“Our university and our community have witnessed his dedication to his roots and to his country, and it is wonderful to see him recognized with this honour,” Dr. Wildeman said.
Also named a member of the order was former UWindsor faculty member Ramona Lumpkin. Now president of Mount Saint Vincent University, Dr. Lumpkin served as UWindsor dean of continuing education from 1992 to 1997.
John de Chastelain, a senior advisor to the University’s Jerusalem Old City Initiative and former chief of the Canadian Defence Staff, was named a companion of the order. Among other honourees were film director David Cronenberg, astronaut Chris Hadfield and satirist Rick Mercer.
