Passes now available for provincial women’s basketball championships

Weekend passes are now on sale for the Ontario University Athletics women’s basketball final four, March 6 and 7 at the St. Denis Centre.

The Lancers are top seeds and will play the Lakehead Thunderwolves at 6 p.m. Friday to open the tournament.

The passes permit entry into both semi-final games as well as Saturday’s championship final. They cost $25, with a student and senior rate of $20; order online through goLancers.ca.

Five men’s hockey players among major award recipients

With three men’s hockey players named all-stars, the defending Queen’s Cup champion Windsor Lancers led the way in west division major award winners.

Spencer Pommells led Canadian Interuniversity Sport with 16 goals and 34 assists for 50 points, earning designation as the division’s Most Valuable Player as well as a first-team all-star. Pommells appeared in all 27 of Windsor's games and finished second on the team with five game-winning goals.

Kenny Bradford is Defenceman of the Year and a first-team all-star after tying for the provincial scoring lead among defencemen with 28 points. Goaltender Parker Van Buskirk, a second-team all-star last year, rounds out the Lancers’ first-team selections and has also been named West Division Goaltender of the Year. He led the conference with 20 wins and his 2.86 goals against average was the second-best of any netminder in the division.

First-year forward Dylan Denomme is the West Division Rookie of the Year after scoring 13 goals and 18 assists, and Kevin Hamlin is Coach of the Year after leading his team to a 22-4-1 record.

Lancer rookie honoured by OUA women’s hockey

Windsor Lancer forward Krystin Lawrence has been named to the OUA women’s hockey all-rookie team, the league announced Monday.

The first-year criminology student led the Blue and Gold with 22 points in 23 games played. Her standout performance placed her eighth in scoring in the OUA. A dual-sport athlete, Lawrence is also the starting goaltender for the Lancer women’s soccer team.

Write-up recalls 1991 CIS track championships

In 1991, Windsor hosted the Canadian Interuniversity Sport track and field championships for just the second time, and the Lancers claimed their first-ever national team title. When the CIS meet opens at the St. Denis Athletic complex March 12, it will mark the 10th time the University of Windsor has hosted the event.
