Bike Week festivities encourage safety and fun

Spring Bike Week got off to a rolling start Monday, with two days remaining for cyclists to take part in events and win prizes.

The UWindsor Cyclists Association holds the annual event to inform and educate students on bike safety, says president Candice Seagull.

“We offer many events to encourage more students, staff and faculty to ride a bicycle, as well as educate the campus community about bike laws and safety—whether they are a cyclist, a driver, or a pedestrian.”

Cyclists can have their bikes looked at by bike mechanic, participate in the slow bike race, learn to properly lock their mounts and win water bottles and bike reflectors.

Here is the schedule of events:

  • Tuesday March 31
    9 to 10:30 a.m. Free breakfast for cyclists (outside of CAW Student Centre);
    11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free bicycle tune-ups (bike shelter with fix-it station);
    1:30 to 2 p.m. Slow Bike Race (on Sunset Avenue in front of the Education Building).
     
  • Wednesday April 1
    9 to 10:30 a.m. Free breakfast for cyclists (outside of CAW Student Centre);
    11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Safety locking tips (outside of CAW Student Centre);
    1 to 3 p.m. Spin bikes in Human Kinetics Building;
    4 to 5:30 p.m. Group bike ride (meet at bike shelter with fix-it station).
