Library provides seamless access to student resources through new course readings service

A change to its Course Readings Service will make it easier for students to access required materials from the Leddy Library.

In preparation for the campus migration from CLEW to Blackboard over the next year, the library is piloting the revision to its Course Readings Service (formerly Course Reserves Service) starting in Intersession 2015.

When professors provide the Leddy Library with a list of course readings, library staff will make sure the readings comply with the Copyright Act and existing University of Windsor copyright policies. The instructors will receive their original readings list, complete with live links to digital readings and call numbers for physical items. These physical items will still be available for access at the Library Information Desk.

Gwendolyn Ebbett, dean of the library, says the change aligns well with the philosophy to create seamless access for students looking for course materials.

“Already, most of our online materials are available through the library website,” she says. “This is a natural progression for course reserves as well.”

Faculty teaching a course that will require this service should e-mail reading lists to coursereserves@uwindsor.ca at least three weeks ahead of time to ensure access for students at the start of the semester.
