Journalist to share experiences of urban blogging

Toronto-based journalist Shawn Micallef will deliver the free public lecture, “Walking off the Page,” as part of Humanities Week  celebrations today at 5 p.m. in Katzman Lounge, Vanier Hall.

Micallef is the author of Stroll: Psychogeographic Walking Tours of Toronto and the 2014 book The Trouble with Brunch: Work, Class and the Pursuit of Leisure. A columnist at the Toronto Star, he teaches at the University of Toronto and OCAD University.

Today also marks a Humanities Café at 1 p.m. in the Leddy Library. The series runs through Friday, same time, same place.

Thursday, September 24, the Windsor Symphony Orchestra will present “Conduct Us” at noon in the CAW Student Centre Commons. The event will give students, staff faculty or any passerby a chance to pick up the baton and lead the orchestra. If no souls are brave enough to mount the podium, the musicians just sit quietly.

That evening, a reception will honour “Why Humanities?” competitors and the winner of a semester’s tuition. The public is welcome; it begins at 5 p.m. in the Ambassador Auditorium, CAW Student Centre.
