Female high school students with an interest in science and technology are invited to attend a free workshop at the University of Windsor.

The UWindsor chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ Women in Engineering is offering up to 16 students the chance to participate in a smart home automation workshop. The event takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 4, in the Digital Logic Design Lab—room 2191, Centre for Engineering Innovation.

Participants will create a light dimmer prototype and will learn how to do the following:

• interface an analog sensor to a digital system;
• program an Arduino based controller to design a control system;
• interface a relay to the controller to turn lights on and off.

The workshop will be led by UWindsor alumnus Kaushik Ray, a hardware and software design engineer with Windsor’s DuroByte Inc. Ray specializes in customized circuit design, software research and development, printed circuit board design and prototype design for mass production.
