Weekend promises playoff action for Lancer fans

Lancer fans will have a lot to choose from this weekend, with playoff contests at home for women’s hockey and basketball, and on the road for track and field and men’s hockey.

The women’s hockey squad will seek to stave off elimination Friday after dropping the first game in its best-of-three series against the Guelph Gryphons, 3-0 Wednesday. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. at South Windsor Arena. Game 3, if necessary, will be back in Guelph on Sunday, February 26.

The women’s basketball team will tip off against the Ryerson Rams in an Ontario University Athletics quarter-final Saturday at 2 p.m. in the St. Denis Centre. The Lancers earned a bye through the preliminary round after finishing atop the west division standings.

Tickets for these home games are $10, with a youth and senior rate of $8, and $3 admission for UWindsor students. There will be no advance ticket sales; pay at the door starting one hour before game time.

The men’s hockey team will be looking to close out its best-of-three quarter-final against Ryerson in game two, Saturday in Toronto. Windsor took Wednesday’s opener 4-2. Game three, if necessary, will be Sunday at Ryerson’s Mattamy Athletic Centre.

Track and field athletes will compete in the OUA championship meet, Friday and Saturday at York University. The men enter ranked second in the province and the women fourth.

All these contests will be webcast live on OUA.tv. Find details, as well as information on admissions, at goLancers.ca.

A loss to the McMaster Marauders ended the post-season run of the men’s basketball team. Mac won the first-round game 71-63, Wednesday in Hamilton. Lancers Mike Rocca and Micqueel Martin, with 17 and 13 points respectively, led Windsor. Read a full game recap.
