Ash Wednesday ceremony to mark start of Lenten season

An ecumenical Christian service Wednesday, March 1, will mark the start of Lent, the period leading up to Easter.

The Ash Wednesday service will include praise, scripture, reflection, and the “imposition of ashes,” says Chrisandra Skipper, outreach co-ordinator for the Campus Ministry of Assumption University.

“Since the 11th century, Christians have had ashes placed on their foreheads in the sign of the cross. This symbolizes their mortality and sinfulness,” she says.

The event is set for 12:10 p.m. in the Oak Room, Vanier Hall.
