Soup and stress relief on agenda for student session

Balancing stress is an important skill to learn, says Mohsan Beg, clinical director of the Student Counselling Centre. He will lead a lunchtime discussion of mental health on Tuesday, March 7, in the CAW Student Centre.

“Demands — whether it’s schoolwork, a job, family, relationships — take energy, so you need fuel,” says Dr. Beg. “You need proper food, rest, exercise, social interactions, laughter … many of the things we say we don’t have time for when we’re busy.”

He compares being overwhelmed by stress to running out of gas and, fortunately, his appearance comes with its own filling station: attendees will receive free soup. It begins at noon in the centre’s Commons area.

The event, hosted by Sandra Riccio-Muglia, the student centre’s director of student events and programs, is open to all. Other giveaways include packs of hygiene products as reminder of self-care, and helmets and water bottles for registering with the UBike Share program.
