UWindsor wins recognition for workplace wellness programming

For the sixth consecutive year, the University of Windsor has won recognition from the Windsor Essex County Health Unit and the Working Toward Wellness Workplace Wellness Committee for its efforts to provide comprehensive workplace wellness programming .

This annual recognition program includes five award levels ranging from Bronze to Diamond. This year, the University reached a new milestone by receiving the Diamond Level award, given to employers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in providing environments and policies that create and support healthy lifestyles.

At the recognition breakfast October 18, Rita LaCivita, vice-president human resources, and members of the Workplace Wellness Committee (Giovanna Abraham, Fedela Falkner, Frank Jeney, Debbie Kane, Marnie Kuhn, Marcela Ciampa, and Oliga Tserakhava) accepted the award on behalf of the University.

“This award recognizes the dedication and efforts of the Workplace Wellness Committee and, of many faculty and staff across campus who support employees in the achievement of their health and wellness goals,” LaCivita said.

The award application highlighted initiatives undertaken across campus from July 2016 to June 2017 that provided employees with an opportunity to enhance awareness, knowledge and engage in behaviours that will ultimately result in enhanced health.

One such initiatives is the “Take Charge of Stress” campaign, which connected employees to information on the common signs of stress, health concerns, myths, coping strategies and much more. Visit the Department of Human Resources website to learn more about this and past awareness-raising campaigns.
