“Animals and Us” author to deliver free public lecture

How can a puppy be a family member in Kansas and a menu item in Korea?

Human-animal relationship expert Hal Herzog will discuss how interactions with other species offer a window into the workings of the human mind in a free public lecture on Wednesday, October 25, at 5:30 p.m. in room 202 of the Toldo Health Education Centre.

Dr. Herzog has been studying psychological, biological, cultural, and ethical aspects of human-animal relationships for more than 30 years. His research has included studies of the moral thinking of animal activists and cock-fighters; the evolution of pet-keeping; the impact of pets on human health and happiness; and the social psychology of attitudes toward other species.

Professor emeritus of psychology at Western Carolina University, he is the author of the 2010 book Some We Love, Some We Hate, Some We Eat: Why it’s so Hard to Think Straight About Animals, and the blog “Animals and Us” for Psychology Today magazine.
