“Take Our Kids to Work was a great success with over 50 Grade 9 students joining us today for our program,” says Rita LaCivita, vice-president, human resources. “We hope that the students leave with an enhanced understanding of what the University of Windsor has to offer, our programs of study, career opportunities, and most importantly, that they have a future full of promise.”

Coming to work with his father Wednesday was more than just a day off school for Hank Owen.

The Grade 9 student at Kingsville District High School, son of David Owen in Facility Services, said he was excited about the opportunity to learn more about programs offered at the University of Windsor.

At this early stage, he is considering a career in actuarial sciences, but as one of more than 50 participants in Take Our Kids to Work Day, he got hands-on experiences in a number of disciplines, including forensics, nursing, engineering, and business.

Assumption student Natalia Ramirez, the daughter of education professor Susan Holloway, said the day’s activities were more interesting than she had expected.

“It was cool going into nursing, learning about pulse points,” she said. “I thought we’d be sitting in a bunch of lectures, but we actually got to do hands-on activities.”
