Lecture to trace changing images of sportswomen

A former president of the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport will draw on cultural studies and feminism as frameworks to examine issues of difference related to gender, race, and ethnicity in a free public lecture on the UWindsor campus Friday, November 10.

Toni Bruce is a professor in the Faculty of Education and Social Work at New Zealand’s University of Auckland. Her current research focuses on identifying global patterns of sports media representation, especially of sportswomen.

Dr. Bruce’s presentation, entitled “15 Rules of Media Representation: Changing Images of Female Sporting Bodies over Time,” will begin at noon in room 144, Human Kinetics Building. It is part of the Faculty of Human Kinetics Distinguished Speakers’ Series.
