Retirees pay tribute to departing UWindsor president

Calling him a “true friend,” an association of the university’s retirees paid tribute to UWindsor president Alan Wildeman at its general meeting, Monday in Assumption Hall.

“We extend our warmest wishes to you for a fulfilling retirement,” said David Palmer, president of the Windsor University Retirees’ Association, noting that its members have already made the transition to a “life of freedom.”

Datta Pillay, a former president of the retirees’ association, delivered a tribute to Dr. Wildeman’s UWindsor career, saying his record of 10 years speaks for itself.

“This institution owes a debt of gratitude for this outstanding service,” he said.

About 50 members in attendance gave Wildeman a standing ovation as he accepted a framed certificate reading “The Windsor University Retirees Association appreciates with gratitude the support and encouragement of Dr. Alan Wildeman for his outstanding commitment to the retirees during the past ten years of his tenure.”

Wildeman, who will retire from his office at the end of June, said he will proudly display the certificate in his home.
