Accounting for success: business program provides fast track to CPA designation

In what its academic director calls “an outstanding achievement,” 14 of 15 graduates in the inaugural cohort of the Odette School of Business’s Master of Business Administration - Professional Accounting Stream (MBA-PAS) program passed the examination allowing them to qualify for designation as chartered professional accountants.

“These results represent a 93 per cent pass rate, which well exceeds the provincial average,” says professor Peter Savoni. “We at Odette are celebrating this accomplishment, especially in view of the program’s infancy.”

The MBA-PAS program, accredited by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario, welcomed its first students in September 2017. Graduates earn an MBA and prepare for the three-day Common Final Examination. Successful candidates will receive CPA designation upon completion of their practical experience requirements.

Dr. Savoni credits the students for their hard work, dedication, and commitment.

“This has truly been a team effort by Odette’s accounting faculty and administration,” he says. “The successful outcome would not have happened without their tremendous contributions to the students and to the program.”
