Blood donor clinics set for student centre Tuesday and Wednesday

A lot of people need blood, says Romel Abou-Akl. That’s why the fourth-year biomed student volunteers to encourage people to donate the precious fluid through Canadian Blood Services.

An outreach representative with the UWindsor Blood Club, he distributed invitations to two campus donor clinics — Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 22 and 23, in the student centre’s Commons area.

“We are hoping to collect 160 donations over the two days,” Abou-Akl said. “Blood is needed for chemotherapy treatment, trauma victims, surgeries: all routine procedures that take place every day.”

The clinics run from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Walk-in donors are welcome, but appointments will better accommodate donors’ working schedules. To book an appointment, call 1-888-2DONATE (1-888-236-6283).

As with previous clinics, the Department of Human Resources encourages all eligible employees to participate in this worthwhile process and asks any employees who wish to donate to make the necessary arrangements with their supervisors regarding the possibility of extended lunch or break periods.
