Performative pieces to celebrate Black History Month

Actor Leslie McCurdy will perform the role of Viola Desmond from her one-woman show Things my Foresisters Saw to headline “Speak Black,” a spoken word night on Monday, Feb. 25, in the SoCA Armouries.

The event, presented by the student group Making It Awkward: Challenging Anti-Black Racism, is a celebration of Black History Month. It will feature singers, dancers, and poets, including: Brian Nickson, TJ Travis, Florine Ndimubandi, Andrea Obeid, Kayla Smith, Natasha Daley, and Urban Movement.

Admission is free and open to the public, 6 to 9 p.m. at 37 University Ave. E.
