Odette team takes top prize in human resources case competition

An Odette School of Business team of Bachelor of Commerce students Emily Teetzel and Samantha Marasco de Man and Master of Management students Lindsay Ye and Rashed Bin Najib won first place in the annual case competition held in Toronto by the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA).

The competition brings together students with a passion for utilizing their strategic knowledge through application of classroom concepts to real-life business situations.

The theme of the 2019 competition was “Investing in the Future of Talent.” Teams were provided with a case and were given time to analyze it, develop a strategy, and create a presentation with key recommendations. Each team then presented to a panel of judges consisting of senior HR professionals.

The competition was held in two rounds: a seven-team qualifier leading to a three-team final. Finalists added new components to their presentations based on the follow-up questions during the previous round.
