Students turn out for sweet taste of school spirit

Hundreds of students turned out to enjoy blue and gold cake Wednesday in celebration of UWin Day, and some got an extra treat — the opportunity to meet UWindsor president Robert Gordon.

Computer science students Selin Ozoglu and Brittany Vanderlip said they showed up for a free dessert and were impressed to be served by the University’s top official.

“It’s very cool that he’s involved with this way — even cutting the cake!” said Ozoglu.

But her classmate wasn’t surprised.

“The University of Windsor always finds ways to get people engaged,” Vanderlip said. “Look at all the opportunities they provide you with, whether it’s for your classes or career. It definitely makes you Windsor Proud.”

Thousands of cupcakes and slices of cake were claimed in less than an hour.

Third-year concurrent education and psychology major Theriza Veloro said the free sweets brightened her day, adding: “It’s even more heart-warming that the president is passing it out.”
