Athletics announces awards nominees

The athletics department will announce the winners of its major awards over the next two weeks, after having to cancel its annual banquet.

It released the names of finalists Friday.

Female rookie of the year: Chloe Knox, track and field; Yaila Sealy, volleyball; Harriet Carey, basketball; and Alyssa Hild, fastpitch.

Male rookie of the year: Wes Simpson, football; Shakael Pryce, basketball; Jacob Prsa, baseball; and Anthony Salinitri, hockey.

Female super sophomore: Mandy Brunet, track and field; Ally Winik, volleyball; and Aiden Banks, curling.

Male super sophomore: Thomas Kennedy, basketball; Kyle Buren, soccer; and Nojah Parker, track and field.

Captain’s Trophies for outstanding leadership both on and off the field — female nominees are Ashley Maitre, hockey; Kiera Jackson, track and field; and Nicole Cesca, golf. Male nominees are Daniel Metcalfe, football; Cole Hannam, track and field; and Ben Assad, hockey.

The IG Champions Cup for the varsity team that best exemplifies what it takes to be a champion in the classroom, on the playing field, and throughout the community: women’s volleyball, men’s track and field, and golf.

Eddi Chittaro Assistant Coach of the Year: Madeline Belding, women’s basketball; Anna Patterson, cross country and track and field; Randy Beardy, football; and Igor Stjepanovic, men’s basketball.

Gino Fracas Coach of the Year: James Gravelle, men’s volleyball; Adam Wagner, golf; and Chantal Vallée, women’s basketball.

Female finalists for the DeMarco Awards for student-athletes who best combine academics and athletics: Chelsea Salter, fastpitch; Amy Maitre, hockey; and Kaylee Anagnostopoulos, basketball. Male nominees: Brad Gyemi, volleyball; Sam Girard, football; and Chris Poloniato, basketball.

Banner Shield for outstanding female athlete of the year: Kayah Clarke, basketball; Mandy Brunet, track and field; and Alyssa Getty, golf.

Olympic Shield for outstanding male athlete of the year: Jack Zimmerman, baseball; Pierce Johnson, volleyball; and Jonathan Reinhart, hockey.

Announcements will begin Tuesday, March 31, with most valuable players on each team and conclude with the winners of the Banner and Olympic shields on April 8.
