Lancer men to play in provincial soccer showcase

Lancer men’s soccer players Massimo Megna and Mike Pio will suit up for Ontario University Athletics’ inaugural soccer showcase, this weekend in Vaughan, north of Toronto.

Megna, a fourth-year human kinetics major, and Pio, a second-year science student, will play on the West team in an East-West match-up on Sunday, May 5. The event is designed to showcase Ontario university soccer to prospective student-athletes.

Even as she prepares to graduate, Meaghan Pototschnik says Windsor will always be her home.

“I will always be proud to say I am a Lancer,” the fourth-year nursing student said Wednesday as she accepted the DeMarco Award as the top female combining academic and athletic achievement during the annual Evening of Excellence at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts.

The golfer won a second straight provincial individual title while earning A-level grades. Massimo Megna, co-captain of the Lancer men’s soccer team, won the men’s DeMarco Award.

Windsor athletes named all-stars in cross-country, soccer

Ontario University Athletics named Lancer Matt Walters a first-team all-star after his fourth-place finish at the provincial cross-country meet last weekend paced the Windsor men’s team to a silver medal.

His teammates Jeremy Cooper and Nick Falk qualified for second-team all-start status.

On the women’s side, Jenn Corrick’s 10th-place standing earned her an all-star berth.

Next up for cross-country is the Canadian Interuniversity Sport championship meet, November 10 in London.

Conciliation sessions with WUFA begin today

As previously reported in DailyNews, conciliation talks between the University and the Windsor University Faculty Association continue in expectation that a successful collective agreement will be reached.

Conciliation sessions are scheduled for September 12, 14, 19, 22 and 23.
