Canada Day holiday to close University offices Monday

University of Windsor offices will close Monday, July 2, in observance of the Canada Day statutory holiday.

Summer session classes will begin Tuesday, July 3.

DailyNews will publish Tuesday and Thursday, July 3 and 5, before returning to its Monday and Thursday summer publication schedule.

Susan McKee in kayak on Detroit River

The weather was perfect for kayaking, UWindsor staffer Susan McKee said of the 2012 Summerfest Detroit River Paddle on Saturday, June 23. McKee, publicity coordinator in the School of Music, was one of a group of canoeists and kayakers taking part in the two-hour event, paddling more than 13 km from Kayak Cove east of the Little River to McKee Park, just west of the Ambassador Bridge.

“Virtually no wind, 24 degrees and low humidity,” noted McKee. “It doesn’t get any better!”

National holidays complicate shipments from US

People on campus taking shipment of perishables from the United States over the next week should time their arrival to avoid holiday closures, advises the UWindsor finance department.

The University’s customs warehouse in Dearborn, Michigan, will open as usual on Monday, July 2, but because the University will close that day, perishable shipments should arrive no later than Thursday, June 28, to get to their campus destinations before the weekend.

The warehouse will close for Independence Day on Wednesday, July 4. To ensure that perishable goods arrive to the University safely, the finance department suggests they be delivered to the warehouse between Monday, July 9, and 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11.
