Trumpeter and UWindsor alumna Melissa Derus (BMus 2011) is one of the featured performers with the Forest City Brass Quintet, offering a free public recital Thursday in the Music Building.

The group, founded in 2011 at Western University’s Don Wright School of Music, is composed of students from the fields of music performance and music education. Its members have toured across Ontario to offer their expertise in chamber music performance, training brass players in secondary and elementary schools.

Their repertoire ranges from jazz to string quartet transcriptions to contemporary compositions, including pieces that were written specifically for Forest City Brass. Thursday’s recital begins at 6 p.m. in room 139, Music Building. Read more on the music website.
