Play explores issues of loneliness and the need for love

Performances of Brave Hearts, by playwright Harry Rintoul, will give Windsor audiences a chance to see the production before it hits the New York stage.

The play tells the compelling story of the relationship between two gay men, GW and Rafe. With touches of humor, Brave Hearts uses irony to confront issues of pain and loneliness, and the need for comfort and love in an era when a diagnosis of HIV meant certain death.

The Ryan Repertory Company will mount the play May 15 to 26 at the Harry Warren Theatre, but not before a special pay-what-you-can preview comes to Windsor for two performances May 10 and 11.

The previews reflect the local roots of the show’s director and actors, all graduates of the UWindsor acting program. Professor Lionel Walsh (BFA 1981), associate dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, directs this production, with Chris George (BFA 2011) as GW and Dave Gingerich (BFA 2007) as Rafe.

The shows will be held in the Studio Theatre, Jackman Dramatic Art Centre. The door proceeds will benefit the Harry Rintoul Memorial Award for best new Manitoba play.

Please note: the play contains mature subject matter and strong language.
