Workshop to explore food preservation techniques

Preserving food at the height of its freshness and flavour can save you money, make you more self-reliant and allow you to enjoy local produce year-round.

A free public workshop Saturday, September 7, will explore various methods of preservation, including freezing, drying, canning and storing.

The event, part of the Nurturing Communities through Nurturing Gardens series, will run 11 a.m. to noon in OPIRG House, 372 California Avenue and feature presentations by:

  • Krysta Glovasky-Ridsdale on steam pressure canning;
  • Ron Meng on freezing and dehydrating; and
  • Jennifer Soutter on hot water bath canning;

as well as a chance to share your own stories and tips.
