Golf tournament a fundraiser for food banks

A group of UWindsor business students has organized a charity golf tournament just when it is needed most.

The 18-hole game will raise money for the Windsor Essex Food Bank Association and is planned for Saturday, November 16, at “The Green” indoor golf course on Tecumseh Road.

“The proximity of the event is close to the holidays so people are using food banks,” said organizer Ghasan Bassiso. “Windsor has the second-highest unemployment rate in Canada at 9.2 percent.”

The event will take a maximum of 60 golfers, but Bassiso says the group will plan another game the following week if interest warrants. Given the normally high price of a round of golf, he calls the cost of $60, including food, beverages and a gift raffle “pretty reasonable.”
