UWindsor student in running for national Three Minute Thesis honours

UWindsor champion Yasina Somani is one of 11 finalists in a national competition of graduate students explaining their research and its significance.

The Three Minute Thesis contest restricts them to a total of three minutes with a single slide and no props. Somani, a master’s of human kinetics candidate, discussed her work on a novel treatment for high blood pressure.

For the first time, the Canadian Association of Graduate Studies has sponsored a cross-country competition. Organizers videotaped the 11 finalists before live audiences at regional competitions. A panel featuring Nobel Laureate John Polanyi, CBC journalist Kady O’Malley and University of Waterloo history professor Doug Peers will judge their presentations.

The public may help to select the winner of a People’s Choice award, voting for the contestant that best combines clarity and relevance. Voting closes June 2. View the finalist videos and register your vote on the association’s website: http://www.cags.ca/3mt/index.php.
