Cross-Border Institute programs designed to make students “trade-ready”

UWindsor’s Cross-Border Institute, under the umbrella of Inter-Faculty programs, will be offering more ways for students and members of the public to develop proficiencies in border management and international trade this fall with six four-week courses offered in a face-to-face and online learning environment.

Students can register now for such courses as, The Global Business Environment and Intercultural Aspects of Integrative Trade; Supply Chain and Border Management; and, International Marketing and Regulatory Environment,  which begin September 11.

Completion of four courses will lead to a Border Management and International Trade Certificate, as well as a Forum for International Trade Training (FITT) Certificate. Completion of eight courses will lead to a UWindsor Undergraduate Certificate; a FITT Diploma; and a Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) designation.

“This is an ideal way for professionals currently working in the field to enhance their career skills or for a current student to expand their skill set in a very marketable way,” says CBI Director Bill Anderson.

Dr. Anderson says the program’s online and face-to-face component is designed to dovetail with students’ busy lives and schedules.

“One of the great features of our Certificate Program in Border Management and International Trade is the high level of participation and interaction among the students. By taking the program online with the best available teaching methods and technology we are able to reach out to more students, without sacrificing that high level of interactivity.”

CBI research assistant Professor Renata Kobe says that professional designations have always been widely considered important in such fields as engineering, accounting and finance. She says the Border Management and International Trade Certificate program now also offers a convenient path to the Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) designation.

“This is exciting because students now have an opportunity to pursue dual certification and become trade ready, learning at the doorstep of the busiest border crossing in North America.”
