Students looking to maintain Charity Week streak

The University of Windsor has led the country in raising funds for the Orphan Sponsorship Program two years running. It’s a streak local organizers are hoping to extend.

“Let’s make it three in a row!” says second-year engineering student Renad Hamatto.

Students will be conducting fund-raising activities through Sunday for Charity Week 2015, which supports programs for children in developing countries. Previous projects have included sponsoring school fees for girls in Bangladesh and Pakistan, building schools in Gaza and Syria, and providing medical treatment in east Africa.

“These are very worthwhile causes,” Hamatto says. “It’s important to help people in need.”

Volunteers will staff a booth in the CAW Student Centre Commons each day this week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering everything from bake sales and lemonade to a photo booth and video games.
